I’ve attended the yearly PROPS AGM this evening, and it’s been genuinely inspiring to hear about the incredible work the team does day in, day out.
PROPS supports people whose lives are affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. Hearing firsthand about the practical help, the emotional support, the one-to-one guidance and the group sessions that bring families together reminded me just how vital this service is. From helping people feel less isolated, to teaching coping strategies, to supporting young people across Newcastle and North Tyneside, the impact is enormous.
Some of the carers were brave enough to speak about their own experiences tonight. Listening to them share their challenges, worries, and moments of hope made the work of PROPS feel even more powerful. It takes real courage to open up like that, and it highlighted exactly why this support matters so much. The team delivers specialist programmes, structured interventions, mediation, education, and so much more. But above all, they provide hope. Tonight’s stories showed the difference they make to thousands of families who often don’t know where else to turn.
It’s amazing to see this work up close, and I’m proud to be a trustee for such a dedicated and compassionate organisation.
